Row 80 Check-in 28th August

This week all goals met! Yay!

Last week I failed on my exercise goal but I have been to aqua aerobics and have walked to and from two places I would usually drive to so I am going to count them as exercise. Feels good to be moving my body so going to try and keep this up.

On Thursday I wrote for 55 minutes and hammered out 1,242 words. I wanted to do extra on the Thursday as on the Friday it was my Dad's 60th and we had a big family day planned. I managed another 40 minutes and wrote 853 words. Again the Write Anything prompt could fit in my WIP so I used it as part of a scene. This made a total word count of 2095 words that day which is my highest EVER! It did make me think at the rate I seem to write when November comes and I am aiming for 1,666 words a day for NaNo I will need to find atleast an hour if not an hour and a half each day. It is going to be tough! But I am so excited to give it a go!

On Saturday I wrote for 45 minutes and managed 845 words and today I wrote for 30 minutes and wrote 825 words. I also spent 5 minutes jotting down future plot plans as I have had lots of moments when I think of something I want to happen but with all the ideas bouncing around my head I was worried I would lose one.

So quick calculation and my WIP word count is 23, 894!! I have set myself a mini-goal of getting to 30,000 words before I start back to work on Friday. It is a bit of a steep goal but I hope to do it. 6106 words in just over 4 days...seems like a lot when I write it like that!

Plan moving forward is still to add words to my WIP and also to make a list of all the ideas I have for non check-in blog posts. I really enjoyed writing last weeks post 'Do you remember your first lines?' and thank you to everyone who commented. Not sure what this weeks will be about.

With 4 weeks left of this round of ROW 80 I hope to just keep adding words to my WIP. Knowing that for November I will be putting it to one side to start a NaNo story motivates me to write as much as I can before then.

I hope everyone has had brilliant weeks and I am looking forward to reading some check-ins!

  1. Awesome job on the goal! And yes, moving more than you did before I think counts as exercise even if it's not a planned activity for a set duration.

I don't think I'm going to do NaNo this year. I tried it last year and failed but won in 2009. I might, though, jury is still out on that.

  2. Congrats on meeting most of your goals this week. I'm always impressed by people who can write that quickly. I tend to top out at 1500 words a day.

Keep up the great work :)

  3. Awesome job on your goals, Em.

Great to see that you are posting "non-ROW" updates as well. Add a subscription button and I'll add you in *hint*.

    Have a great week :)

  4. Thank you for your comments!

I will add that to my list of things to do Gene....hope I can work out how to do it!

  5. Hi Em,

Like you I can get good word counts in about an hour when I have the chapters plotted out in advance. But this week I need to focus on the plot so I can keep writing at this pace.

I'm thinking about checking out NaNo since I've been enjoying ROW80 so much. I like the flexibility of ROW80 but maybe a stricter challenge is just what I need. But I'll have to check the NaNo rules if I can keep writing on my WIP or if it has to be something new.

P.S. My WIP just squeaked past the 30,000 mark. It feels good because for me its 100 pages and 100 is a nice number. :)

  6. Thanks for your comment Nicole!

I think that clear planning will be key for me when it comes to NaNo as there won't be time to stop and research etc. once the writing starts. Definately check the rules, I know they suggest a new story but it may not be against the rules to continue with one....I am not sure.

Congratulations on the 30,000 words and you are right, 100 pages is a nice number!

  7. You're doing so wonderfully well! Congrats on all of the progress, and I hope you had fun at your father's birthday party.

Looks like we've got about the same number of words to write over the next few days. It seems steep, but I am confident that we can both do it. :D

  8. I'm happy I can comment now. :)

Yeah, I'm sure I'd over plan if I enter NaNo because it would be necessary like you said. I will check the rules.

Have fun reaching the 30k mark. Even if its not this week, it will surely happen and we can celebrate when it does.

  9. Jamila..having the same amount as you to write is great as it is added motivation!

Thank you Nicole, I am glad you can comment now too! I am definately looking forward to the 30k mark!

  10. Awesome word counts! You can make that 6k. The momentum helps a lot. :-)

  11. Very good check-in! You've been busy and super productive. This is encouraging, I need some of whatever your secret is. I am hoping that since we are running out of time, I will get myself in gear and get through this WIP.

  12. Way to go on your accomplishments this week! Happy belated bday to your dad :)

Keep up the fantastic job! WOOT WOOT

  13. Here is a link for you that I think will help with the subscription button/gadget. I'm a WordPress person so I can't test this. Hope it helps.

  14. Thank you Angela, I hope I can make it!

Wendy Jane my secret may be I have been off work for a month, one of the perks to being a teacher! Hope things go well for you this week.

    Thank you Marie!

Gene, thank you for this, will try and get it sorted!

  15. Impressive. I've toyed with doing NaNo this year, but I'm still not sure. When you break it down into at least an hour a day of writing, it seems achievable. Hmmmm.

Thanks for always stopping by Depression Cookies and showing the love. Hope you have a great word total and exercise week!

  16. Hey Em,

You did awesome! Wish I could do that much now. Hopefully next time. Thanks for stopping by my blog for support. You're the one person I can count on hearing from!

  17. You have done great this week!! You inspire me!! :) Thanks for posting on my blog--it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

  18. Wow! You're making inspiring progress!
